The average cost to support a child in foster care is £16 per month. We have been given our provisional charity number by the Inland Revenue. This will enable us to increase our income by asking our supporters to “Gift Aid” their donations, meaning that we will be able to claim back the tax they have paid from their donation. For example, if someone sponsors a child at £16 per month and is a UK tax payer, we can claim another £55 per annum from the Inland Revenue!
Our situation to date:
* We are supporting 3 girls with cerebral palsy in a special care unit and foster care and the cost for each child is $100 per month.
* We are supporting a further 25 children in 3 different areas in foster care at a cost of between $30-$35 for each child.
* 16 girls at various ages have been sponsored for full time education.
Income to end of July 2004 £5585.10 Expenditure £5142.62 Balance of funds £442.48 There have been admin costs for mailing, setting up the trust and stationery etc, but none of them has been charged to the Trust. All funds raised go directly to China with no admin charges. |

We currently provide funds for Grace-Hope to foster 28 children:
* 8 children in Nanning SWI*
* 10 children in Yongning SWI
* 10 children in Desheng SWI
Three of the children in Yongning suffer from cerebral palsy. We have been able to place the girls in a specialised unit during the day and a foster home – the difference to these girls is immense. The girls are being sponsored by 3 businesses in Skye. In Desheng SWI, where our daughter lived for 15 months, Linda is now the Volunteer Orphanage Rep and is working with the staff of Grace-Hope and the Director of the SWI to develop more ways to help and develop the children living in the orphanage. There is a dedicated team of 4 workers in Guangxi Province who are working with the SWI’s. (See more details on www.grace-hope.org - especially Xiao Xiao’s link on Foster Care) These workers are responsible for finding and training foster families. When the children are placed, a progress visit and report is made every 3 months, and details with photographs are sent to the sponsors. It has been wonderful to see the change in these children, when placed in a caring family environment. It costs £16 per month to sponsor each child. If you are interested in sponsoring a child please email Linda at

China is a wonderful country with a rich heritage that has given so much to our world. It’s a diverse country with lovely, warm-hearted people. However, in China today there are still many baby girls, for a variety of reasons, being abandoned and ending up in homes. Many of these baby girls end up in other countries, following international adoption. Hope4China is a UK based charity, linked to Grace-Hope in the US, and Girl’s Global Educational Fund [GGEF] in the US.Hope4China was set up in response to needs Iain and Linda Greenshields experienced when they adopted their daughter from Desheng SWI in Guangxi Province, China, June 2004. The charity exists to raise awareness of, and funds for, children in orphanages and girls from poor homes in rural areas who have little hope of a formal education. Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, our local church, Rotary and businesses in Skye, Scotland, we are able to support 28 children in full time foster care in Guangxi Province, China – 3 of whom are supported in specialist care. We also support 16 girls through different levels of education and this is mainly done through two high schools in Scotland. We are a young charity [set up in December 2004], trying to make a difference. We are encouraged at the generosity that people have shown in supporting this project. For about the average cost of a CD every month, a child can be taken from an orphanage and given the chance of a loving home, or given the chance to develop through education and break out of the cycle of poverty. We could do so much more - will you help us? |
